About Ford the Motoring Company

The Ford Motor Company is one of the largest corporations in the world. Founded by Henry Ford in 1903, Ford revolutionized the car industry with its assembly-line process and in the Model T created perhaps the most famous automobile in history. Today, Ford has expanded their interested around the world to become heavily diversified, but still one of the leading auto manufacturers with stakes in Aston Martin and Mazda. Still producing highly popular vehicles such as the Ford F150 pickup, the future of Ford looks even brighter than its celebrated past.

Henry Ford, one of the most innovative minds in American history, founded his fledgling company in 1903 with the idea to create vehicles that common people could afford. Until Ford came along, vehicles were created one at a time by hand. By the end of the decade, Ford had created the assembly line which allowed workers to build vehicles at an extraordinary rate and revolutionized the industry. In 1908, Ford created the Model T, the first vehicle priced low enough that middle class Americans could afford it. By 1927, over 15 million Model Ts were sold, making it the most popular vehicle for nearly 70 years until the Volkswagen Beetle overtook it in the 1970s. As innovation at Ford appeared to wane in the last 1920s, the company roared back with the release of the Model A in 1930 which was the first vehicle to use safety glass in the windshield.

Ford continued to add innovation to their line of vehicles, including the first modestly priced car with a V8 engine which was released in 1932. Innovation, style, comfort and affordability drives the Ford Motor Company and they continued to enjoy success through World War Two and the post-war era. Although not every vehicle was a hit as the infamous “Edsel” showed, that was more than made up for with the release of the Thunderbird, a car that wowed the baby boomer generation. Throughout the 1960s, Ford continued to lead the way by creating the famous Mustang model, a sports car that is still being produced today and is just as popular as ever. The Mustang helped revolutionize the auto world again with a wave of “pony cars” similar to the Mustang being released by other car manufacturers. However, perhaps the most lasting impact was the famous Ford F150 series which is still going strong decades after its initial release. Reliability, toughness and power, the Ford F150 is the standard for all pickup trucks and it continues with the F series in general.

While the Oil Crisis of 1973 put Ford and other US automakers through a tough stretch, Ford rebounded sharply by the end of the decade and went on to produce such hits as the Bronco and the Explorer, two SUVs that are staples in the marketplace. Today, Ford continues to create innovative vehicles such as their new fleet of hybrid cars that provides drivers with fuel-efficient models at low, affordable prices. With a history steeped in innovation and tradition, Ford continues to provide popular trucks, SUVs, hybrids, sedans and coupes at affordable prices for consumers around the world.
